This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.
• Conduct job studies for automation initiatives, establishing project strategies, conceptual DCS designs, deliverables, bill of materials, man-hour estimates, and strategies for design risk mitigation.
• Create and publish technical design documentation, engineering calculations, DCS configurations, and IED selections.
• Facilitate design reviews and engage in technical discussions with customers, addressing feedback and ensuring timely approvals.
• Develop enhancement solutions that integrate with current systems and infrastructure.
• Execute network data flow analysis and estimate data points.
• Assess factory and assembly drawings for design precision.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and partners for FAT, resolving site issues, closing snags, and conducting Site Acceptance Testing.
• Provide technical direction for project execution, including multi-protocol IED integration and SAS troubleshooting.
• Monitor progress, manage design hours, alleviate execution risks, and assist with scope and variation order evaluations.
• Advocate for customer technical needs in design choices and align engineering outputs with business goals.
• Ensure compliance with EHS standards and safe working practices.
• Demonstrate solutions and assist with demos, pilots, and proof-of-concepts for stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• At least 5 years of experience in the design, testing, troubleshooting, and delivery of Substation Automation Systems.
• Proficiency in English.
• Willingness to travel up to 30% within the U.S. and Canada.
• Specialized knowledge in substation automation design and implementation.
• Familiarity with network architecture, SCADA/HMI, databases, cybersecurity, IED integration, and system testing.
• Skillful in programming SCADA/HMI, network devices, firewalls, IEC 61131 PLCs, and energy management systems.
• Understanding of utility standards, protection systems, commissioning, and customized solutions for customers.
• Experience with IEC 61850, Modbus, and DNP3 protocols.
• Background in smart grid and renewable energy integration.
• Competence in DCS troubleshooting, diagnostics, project planning, engineering workflows, and execution.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
• PE license and relevant certifications are advantageous.
