Substation Civil Site Designer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Create new and revise existing civil site plan drawings for substations.

• Develop grading, drainage, and stormwater management strategies.

• Formulate erosion and sediment control plans following local and state regulations.

• Prepare designs for roadways, access drives, and overall site layouts.

• Conduct earthwork grading and cut/fill balancing using Civil 3D or OpenRoads/MicroStation workflows.

• Execute AutoTURN analyses to ensure access for construction and maintenance vehicles.

• Draft utility layouts, including plans for storm sewers, sanitary systems, and water services as needed.

• Create permit-ready civil drawing packages for review by utilities and agencies.

• Support permitting exhibits and efforts related to environmental and jurisdictional permits.

• Collaborate with surveyors, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, and electrical teams for substations.

• Examine civil-related vendor drawings and integrate feedback.

• Aid in quantity takeoffs and project deliverables.

• Implement client standards, local agency requirements, and industry best practices.


⛳️ Requirements

• Associate’s degree or technical diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related field.

• Level 3: At least 2 years of civil site design experience with MicroStation.

• Level 4: A minimum of 3 years of civil site design experience using MicroStation.

• Strong proficiency in MicroStation is essential.

• Experience in developing civil site plans for utility, industrial, commercial, or municipal projects.

• Solid understanding of grading design and earthwork calculations.

• Experience in preparing erosion and sediment control plans.

• Knowledge of stormwater management principles and permitting requirements.

• Experience performing AutoTURN vehicle turning analyses.

• Familiarity with site development permitting processes and coordination with agencies.

• Ability to interpret survey and geotechnical data.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Capability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Strong attention to detail and dedication to producing high-quality deliverables.

• Preferred, but not required, substation experience.

• Familiarity with utility client standards.

• Experience with HEC-RAS, Hydraflow, HydroCAD, or similar hydrology software.

• Knowledge of SWPPP preparation and stormwater permitting requirements.

• Experience in coordinating with local, county, and state permitting agencies.
