Staff/Principal Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Take charge of all architectural decisions involving Node 20, Express, and TypeScript — responsible for production results.

• Regularly write and assess production code — approximately 40–60% of your time, while the remainder focuses on architectural oversight, resource management, and technical coordination throughout the stack.

• Establish engineering standards within the team: code review criteria, testing coverage, observability requirements, and incident reviews.

• Guide technical decisions regarding LLM workflows, RAG pipelines, MCP integrations, and AI cost management.

• Manage the integration layer between the Node/TypeScript backend and the Python automation layer to prevent cascading failures.

• Collaborate with the DevOps Engineer to enhance infrastructure maturity: setting IaC standards, establishing observability baselines, and overseeing AWS ECS Fargate migration.

• Oversee the operational dynamics of the engineering team — allocating technical resources across various workstreams, prioritizing tasks, eliminating obstacles, and ensuring the team operates at its full technical potential.

• Proactively identify and address technical debt through architecture evaluations and refactoring sprints.

• Articulate architectural trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders, translating constraints into business implications.

• Act as the technical liaison to Product leads — converting business objectives into engineering actions, identifying risks early, and managing the feedback loop regarding development progress and methodologies.

• Integrate AI tools and intelligent tooling selections into team workflows, establishing benchmarks for high productivity within a streamlined, high-output engineering environment.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of software engineering experience, demonstrating a history of managing both architectural decisions and the associated delivery processes — ensuring the right code is produced by the appropriate individuals at the right time.

• In-depth experience with Node.js and TypeScript in production environments — responsible for backend management, troubleshooting performance issues, and optimizing queries.

• Designed and deployed distributed systems: asynchronous queues, caching layers, publish-subscribe models, and background job orchestration.

• Adequate Python engineering experience to evaluate architectural decisions and oversee automation layer integration boundaries.

• Served as the technical lead for a team of 5 or more engineers — managing resource allocation, task sequencing, and delivery quality independently of a PM or EM.

• Managed a production incident from start to finish: identification, diagnosis, resolution, post-mortem analysis, and preventive measures implemented.

• Clearly communicated architectural trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.

• Proven ability to cultivate a high-output engineering culture within a lean team — leveraging AI tools, intelligent tooling choices, and stringent technical standards to achieve results beyond headcount.
