This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the governance domain's architecture from start to finish (including authentication, roles and permissions, organizations, groups, and billing) and lead its modernization for scalability, security, and extensibility.
• Spearhead the refactoring of foundational backend systems towards an AI-native architecture, ensuring they facilitate composable and customizable workflows for enterprise clients.
• Establish the technical direction for authentication, authorization, and organizational modeling, balancing immediate enhancements with a long-term platform vision.
• While the governance domain will be your primary focus initially, you will also engage in other areas as we invest in robust technical leadership.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to convert enterprise requirements (from CMOs, marketing administrators, FDEs) into scalable platform functionalities.
• Mentor and uplift the engineering team, enhancing backend practices, code quality, and architectural standards.
• Engage hands-on for 70–80% of the time, writing and reviewing critical-path code while providing technical leadership.
• Fluency in AI with a solid understanding of fundamental AI concepts (such as LLMs, agents, tokens, credits, context windows, RAG, data governance, etc.), applied to backend engineering.
• Significant backend experience. This is a "second rodeo" hire: you have previously owned complex, business-critical backend systems and know how to fortify them for enterprise scalability.
• Profound expertise in at least one of the following areas: authentication/authorization, multi-tenant systems, or billing platforms. You have designed these systems rather than merely maintained them.
• Enterprise backend experience. You have developed for enterprise clients and understand the high standards that governance, compliance, and reliability demand at that scale. This depth in enterprise backend development is precisely what we seek.
• Strong architectural judgment. You can effectively balance practicality with long-term platform strategy, knowing when to build, buy, or refactor.
• A proven record of technical leadership as an individual contributor. You have mentored engineers, elevated code quality and practices, and directed technical initiatives as an IC.
• You are not seeking a solely architectural role. You wish to write and review critical-path code while offering technical leadership.
• You are eager to continue growing and advancing as an individual contributor. This is a deep technical position, and you want to refine your skills and influence as both an IC and a technical voice.
• Direct experience in the governance domain: authentication/authorization, roles and permissions, multi-tenant organizations (preferred).
• Experience with billing systems and usage-based pricing models (preferred).
• Experience building for enterprise clients: SSO/SAML, SCIM, audit logs, compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001) (preferred).
• Familiarity with AI-native product development: integrating LLMs, building agentic workflows, RAG systems (preferred).
• Comprehensive Health, Dental, and Vision coverage starting on the first day for employees and their families.
• 401(k) plan with up to 2% company matching.
• Participation in equity grant opportunities.
• Flexible PTO along with a FlexExperience budget ($900 annually) to enhance your time away from work.
• FlexWellness program ($1,800 annually) to support your personal health objectives.
• Generous budget for home office setup.
• $1,500 annual stipend for learning and development.
• 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
