Staff Software Engineer – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead the technical direction and architecture of the team's domain, balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term platform scalability and maintainability

• Drive architectural decision-making through design reviews, technical proposals, and Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)

• Design, build, and evolve secure, scalable APIs and shared platform services utilized by customers, partners, and internal engineering teams

• Establish and advocate for authentication and authorization patterns using OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, API Keys, and mutual TLS (mTLS)

• Stay actively involved in coding, contributing to the design and delivery of essential platform capabilities

• Support foundational services for customer onboarding, configuration management, and platform extensibility

• Raise engineering standards concerning software quality, testing, observability, security, and operational excellence

• Collaborate with Site Reliability Engineering and Developer Experience teams to enhance reliability, deployment processes, and developer productivity

• Work together with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and Technical Authors to translate customer and business requirements into clear technical solutions

• Mentor engineers at various levels and cultivate a culture of learning, ownership, and technical excellence

• Lead by example through code reviews, technical coaching, and collaboration across teams

• Ensure that technical roadmaps are aligned with ENSEK's broader platform strategy

• Enhance platform security, reliability, integration, delivery performance, and operational visibility

⛳️ Requirements

• Significant commercial software engineering experience, including roles as a Senior Engineer, Technical Lead, or Staff Engineer

• Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction beyond a single team or product area

• Extensive expertise in designing, building, and operating distributed systems and APIs in production settings

• Strong experience with relational databases, particularly SQL Server or similar enterprise-scale database platforms

• In-depth understanding of API design principles, including RESTful APIs, OpenAPI specifications, API versioning, and developer experience considerations

• Experience with implementing modern identity and access management standards, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and related authentication mechanisms

• Hands-on experience in building and operating cloud-native services on AWS

• Strong knowledge of containers and orchestration technologies, including Docker, ECS, and/or EKS

• Experience with AWS services such as API Gateway, IAM, and cloud-native security patterns

• Strong background in Infrastructure as Code, automated testing strategies, and modern CI/CD pipelines

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Proven track record in mentoring engineers and enhancing engineering standards through technical leadership

• Nice to have: Experience working within multi-tenant SaaS platforms

• Nice to have: Experience in Energy, Utilities, or other highly regulated industries

• Nice to have: Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and event-driven architectures

• Nice to have: Experience in building developer platforms or internal engineering tools

• Nice to have: Exposure to platform security, identity management, or customer onboarding systems at scale
