Staff Software Engineer – Margin & Risk

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the architecture and technical roadmap for margin and risk management across various asset classes.

• Develop and construct accurate, testable, and observable systems that implement margin methodologies and adhere to regulatory requirements.

• Oversee real-time risk enforcement along the order path, ensuring a balance between latency, accuracy, and safety.

• Enhance reliability and performance across services, focusing on throughput, state recovery, database load, and failure isolation.

• Collaborate with Product, Brokerage Operations, Compliance, and related engineering teams to establish behavioral and integration boundaries.

• Establish standards for transactional integrity, idempotency, reconciliation, feature flags, and staged rollouts.

• Conduct design reviews, mentor senior and mid-level engineers, and elevate engineering standards.

• Act as a technical point of escalation for production margin and risk issues while driving sustainable incident prevention.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in backend or distributed systems, with a strong preference for having owned the same significant production system for at least two years.

• Demonstrated ownership of a high-volume system where defects could result in financial loss, data integrity issues, or inappropriate customer restrictions.

• Experience in designing and delivering transactional, low-latency, high-throughput systems.

• Strong proficiency in Go, or substantial expertise in Java, C++, or Rust, with a willingness to primarily work in Go.

• Extensive knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including transactions, consistency, and concurrency.

• Familiarity with event-driven and service-oriented systems, such as gRPC or other RPC frameworks, Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies, along with Kubernetes.

• Proven commitment to correctness through testing strategies, edge-case analysis, reconciliation, and safe production rollouts.

• Ability to communicate clearly with engineers, operations, and compliance partners.

• A history of providing technical leadership and mentorship across teams.

• Preferred: hands-on experience with margin or risk across multiple asset classes.

• Preferred: knowledge of Reg T, portfolio margin, options spread margin, or futures margin.

• Preferred: experience in brokerage, clearing, exchanges, ledgers, payments, or settlement systems.

• Preferred: familiarity with options, derivatives, or multi-leg strategies.

• Preferred: experience with workflow orchestration tools like Temporal or similar.

• Preferred: expertise in observability and performance tuning in production environments.

• Preferred: leading migrations or refactoring efforts in production-critical settings.
