Staff Software Engineer, iOS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical direction for iOS across various mobile teams.

• Collaborate across domains including product, backend, platform, QA, and other mobile disciplines.

• Integrate separate market applications into a unified OneApp codebase throughout Europe and beyond.

• Take ownership of cross-team technical decisions rather than focusing solely on a feature backlog.

• Set architecture standards, quality gates, and testing policies to be adopted by other teams.

• Extract features from a monolithic architecture into well-defined modules.

• Publish architectural guidelines and establish ownership and review protocols for shared code.

• Develop phased plans for adopting Swift 6 strict concurrency.

• Translate Apple platform deadlines into budgeted plans.

• Deliver roadmaps and address technical debt.

• Create verification rules for AI-generated code and evaluate their return on investment.

• Mentor senior engineers and facilitate the resolution of technical disagreements.

• Build consensus without direct authority and ensure standards, performance, and security are upheld.

• Collaborate with staff engineers across Android, backend, and QA teams.

• Support CI/CD, release automation, macOS CI infrastructure, testing, observability, and design-system initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of production iOS experience.

• Experience in a staff or principal capacity across multiple teams, or as a technical lead for an entire iOS platform or several parallel iOS projects.

• Familiarity with multi-market or white-label applications.

• Demonstrated history of delivering a single codebase across multiple markets or brands.

• Understanding of MVVM, Clean Architecture, SOLID principles, unidirectional and composable architectures, as well as Apple's architectures or TCA.

• Experience in modularization, feature extraction, architecture publishing, and establishing ownership and review rules for shared code.

• Extensive knowledge of Swift and modern concurrency, including async/await, structured concurrency, actors, Sendable, and cancellation.

• Experience in introducing Swift 6 strict concurrency into a large, mixed codebase.

• Strong understanding of UIKit and SwiftUI, with proven experience in incremental migration.

• In-depth knowledge of databases and database migration processes.

• Awareness of mobile security practices, including SSL pinning, App Attest, App Check, DeviceCheck, native OAuth, Keychain, and secrets management.

• Proficiency with SPM, CocoaPods, hybrid dependency setups, and vendor-locked binary SDKs.

• Experience in writing ADRs, RFCs, and technical proposals.

• Ability to establish quality gates and testing policies.

• Strong business acumen with the capability to quantify technical debt and formulate costed plans.

• Proven track record in delivering roadmaps and addressing technical debt.

• Comprehensive understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) beyond just coding.

• Proficiency in AI-assisted engineering; hands-on experience with Claude, Copilot, or Grok is an advantage.

• Ability to set verification rules for AI-generated code and assess their effectiveness.

• Capability to mentor senior engineers, mediate technical conflicts, build consensus, and make decisions in ambiguous situations.

• Cross-discipline collaboration experience with Android, backend, and QA teams.

• Highly desirable experience with CI/CD and release automation tools such as GitLab CI, Fastlane, TestFlight, and multi-market/multi-scheme pipelines.

• Experience with macOS CI infrastructure, runner provisioning, managing Xcode versions, simulator runtimes, signing, certificates, and ensuring fleet reproducibility.

• Familiarity with appearance and orientation migrations, including Liquid Glass, landscape/adaptive layouts, iPad, foldables, and resizable windows.

• Experience in crafting test strategies at scale using XCTest, Swift Testing, snapshot testing, UI test architecture, and controlling flaky tests.

• Knowledge of observability tools including crash reporting, MetricKit, cold-start, and time-to-home budgets.

• Experience in design systems, focusing on reusable components and accessibility compliance.

• Experience with Apple Watch and watchOS is a plus.

• Familiarity with CarPlay, App Clips, notifications, and app extensions is advantageous.

• Knowledge of SwiftGen, Sourcery, payments or fintech SDK integration, Instruments, metrics, tracing, and the Android ecosystem is a bonus.
