Staff Software Engineer – Foundations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish and guide the technical vision and strategy for the Foundations group.

• Lead architectural decisions regarding integration patterns, caching systems, and shared services.

• Design APIs, data models, and integration patterns tailored for clinical and member experiences.

• Act as a technical escalation point and facilitate design reviews.

• Drive Service Level Objectives (SLOs), capacity planning, and designs ready for incidents.

• Execute high-priority, technically demanding projects while managing the end-to-end delivery of complex multi-team initiatives.

• Develop and implement application performance strategies alongside caching infrastructure.

• Monitor and enhance platform performance, establishing best practices.

• Collaborate with product engineering teams to deliver platform solutions.

• Create and maintain shared libraries, SDKs, and internal APIs.

• Produce documentation, examples, and guidelines for platform services.

• Offer technical guidance during integration efforts with product teams.

• Integrate testability via unit, functional, and contract tests.

• Ensure consistent instrumentation of Mixpanel analytics.

• Establish outcome-focused dashboards and monitoring in collaboration with Product and Data teams.

• Lead post-incident reviews and implement systemic improvements.

• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design guidance, pairing, and code reviews.

• Define and maintain engineering standards, architectural patterns, and documentation practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Approximately 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with substantial time as a senior or staff individual contributor developing production-level product experiences.

• Proven track record of owning and delivering multi-team projects within modern web stacks.

• Experience collaborating closely with product and design teams on user-facing features.

• Comfortable making technical decisions in ambiguous situations and justifying those decisions with clear trade-offs.

• Strong full-stack development skills, encompassing API and data model design, UI development, monitoring, and metrics.

• Extensive knowledge of at least one cloud provider and familiarity with infrastructure-as-code.

• Strong instincts in systems design that address reliability, performance, security, and cost considerations.

• Excellent skills in debugging and incident response, utilizing logs, traces, and data.

• Ability to lead by influence across various teams and partnerships.

• Comfortable working cross-functionally with clinicians, operations, and research personnel.

• Clear written and verbal communication skills for engaging with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• A passion for mentoring and developing engineers.

• Experience in the healthcare, digital health, or regulated industries is a plus.

• Familiarity with EHRs, wearable integrations, or health data platforms is a plus.
