Staff Software Engineer, Backend, Consumer – Prediction Markets

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take responsibility for the design, development, and reliability of backend systems that support order management, trade matching, settlement, and market resolution in prediction markets.

• Design distributed systems that uphold stringent correctness guarantees across workflows related to clearing, payout, and position management.

• Spearhead the technical strategy for transitioning from third-party venue involvement to a fully Coinbase-managed exchange and clearing platform.

• Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with Product, Compliance, and Risk teams to ensure the platform adheres to regulatory standards and is launched confidently.

• Establish engineering standards and practices within the Prediction Markets team, setting a high benchmark for code quality, system design, and operational excellence.

• Collaborate with engineers across Consumer & Business to identify shared infrastructure opportunities and minimize redundancy across trading surfaces.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in backend software engineering, showcasing ownership of high-availability, low-latency distributed systems in a production environment.

• A proven history of designing systems where financial accuracy is critical, including order management, settlement, clearing, or ledger systems.

• Experience in leading complex technical projects over multiple quarters, serving as the senior technical decision-maker, which includes architecture design, trade-off analysis, and cross-team coordination.

• Extensive proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Go, Java, or similar) along with a solid understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and data modeling.

• History of mentoring and uplifting engineers within a team, enhancing standards for design reviews, code quality, and incident response.

• Responsible utilization of generative AI, ensuring human oversight to produce business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in efficiency, costs, and quality.
