Staff Software Engineer, API Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Standardize API development utilizing tools and automation to ensure the optimal approach is the default.

• Define and refine API standards (OpenAPI), enforcing them through tools, automation, and CI/CD workflows rather than manual review processes.

• Create and sustain systems that automatically generate, validate, and uphold API specifications (contracts, schemas, validation).

• Incorporate AI into API development workflows to enhance the quality of specifications, ensure consistency, and improve documentation accuracy.

• Minimize custom implementations by supplying shared patterns, libraries, and templates for API development.

• Enhance API consistency, discoverability, and usability across various services.

• Facilitate quicker internal and partner integrations through well-defined, reliable, and thoroughly documented APIs.

• Collaborate with engineering teams to transition legacy or inconsistent APIs to standardized patterns.

• Simplify the adoption of standardized patterns through robust defaults, comprehensive documentation, and developer tools.

• Develop shared libraries, SDKs, and tools that teams can directly utilize when creating APIs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of software engineering experience with accountability for production systems, reliability, or operational enhancements.

• Strong backend development skills, preferably in Ruby, Node.js, or similar technologies.

• Comprehensive understanding of REST APIs, service contracts, API design, and software design principles.

• Proven experience in designing and maintaining scalable, consistent, and maintainable APIs within production settings.

• Experience collaborating across backend services, APIs, and production systems.

• Proficiency in building and managing services in AWS or comparable cloud environments.

• Solid grasp of distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, and CI/CD processes.

• Willingness to engage in a mandatory 24/7 on-call rotation.

• Experience with or a strong interest in AI-powered development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor).
