Software Engineer III, Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +26 more states.

📋 Description

• Manage and enhance production database systems encompassing MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, and Elastic.

• Create and oversee binlog and logical replication strategies.

• Facilitate ELT/ETL pipelines and CDC workflows to guarantee secure data transfer.

• Connect transactional systems with Kafka-based streaming architectures.

• Enhance database performance via query optimization, indexing, and scaling techniques.

• Oversee backups, failover mechanisms, and disaster recovery processes (PITR).

• Monitor system performance and promote cost efficiency in infrastructure.

• Uphold standards for data integrity, security, and compliance.

• Lead and assist in responding to database-related incidents.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in database engineering within production settings.

• Extensive hands-on experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.

• Proven experience in owning and maintaining high-availability OLTP systems.

• Background in binlog or logical replication.

• Experience in integrating OLTP systems with Kafka or other similar streaming platforms.

• Familiarity with supporting ELT/ETL pipelines and data workflows.

• Strong grasp of ACID principles and transaction isolation levels.

• Proven ability to troubleshoot performance challenges (locking, replication lag, indexing).

• Knowledge of AWS-managed database services (RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB).

• Capability to balance performance, cost, and data integrity in production databases.

• Experience with implementing CDC workflows (Nice to Have).

• Involvement in large-scale database migrations (Nice to Have).

• Understanding of the separation between OLTP and OLAP workloads (Nice to Have).

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform (Nice to Have).

• Background in high-volume, transaction-heavy environments (Nice to Have).
