Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Become a member of Rula’s Patient Onboarding team, responsible for overseeing the journey from initial contact through registration, insurance verification, and the commencement of care.

• Develop production code as a proactive technical leader.

• Spearhead intricate initiatives across various product domains.

• Enhance the technical infrastructure the team relies upon.

• Offer strong technical guidance and assist engineers in accelerating their work through contemporary AI-driven development methodologies.

• Work in close collaboration with Product, Design, and Analytics teams.

• Take ownership of the team's outputs and the methodologies used to achieve them.

• Contribute to the enhancement of a vital aspect of Rula’s patient experience.

• Influence the development of systems and engineering practices that facilitate access to mental healthcare for more individuals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional experience in software engineering, including Staff-level responsibilities or leading complex projects across multiple teams or systems.

• Extensive full-stack engineering experience in building and maintaining production web applications.

• Proficiency in modern frontend frameworks, backend APIs, data modeling, and distributed systems.

• Proven experience in leading technically challenging projects from problem identification through to design, implementation, launch, and ongoing support.

• Familiarity with high-impact user journeys such as onboarding, checkout, registration, eligibility, payments, marketplaces, or other workflows critical to conversion.

• Experience in influencing technical direction across various functions or teams and achieving alignment with Product, Design, Data, or engineering departments.

• Practical experience utilizing AI-assisted software development tools like Claude Code in routine engineering practices.

• Preferred: experience in creating AI-enhanced engineering workflows, tools, or automation that have been adopted by others, resulting in measurable improvements in development speed or quality.

• Preferred: experience in healthcare, insurance, fintech, or other regulated sectors.

• Preferred: experience leveraging product, operational, or funnel data to identify technical opportunities and assess engineering investments.

• Preferred: ability to enhance engineering effectiveness through tooling, documentation, shared architectural practices, or minimizing concentrated system knowledge.

• Must reside in the United States; currently not hiring in Hawaii.
