Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Drive the technical strategy across various engineering domains and collaborative initiatives.

• Design scalable architectures that align with Paymentology's long-term business and product objectives.

• Translate intricate technical challenges into straightforward, actionable solutions.

• Set engineering standards, architectural frameworks, and best practices across different teams.

• Identify and address long-term risks related to reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability.

• Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Operations to shape technical roadmaps and ensure successful delivery.

• Mentor senior engineers and enhance technical leadership throughout the organization.

• Lead projects that elevate engineering quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.

• Actively contribute to critical systems where your expertise can have the most significant impact.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in designing and managing highly available, distributed backend systems.

• Proven track record of leading technical initiatives across multiple teams.

• Strong knowledge in software architecture, system design, and engineering best practices.

• Familiarity with microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, relational databases, and cloud platforms (preferably AWS).

• Understanding of CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, containerization, observability, and automated testing.

• Excellent communication skills with the capability to influence technical decisions and mentor seasoned engineers.

• Professional proficiency in English.

• Experience with Java is highly regarded, while experience in payments, fintech, or other regulated environments is advantageous but not mandatory.
