Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Spearhead the design and execution of comprehensive features spanning React frontend, C# backend services, spatial and relational database layers, and deployment pipelines.

• Identify issues, evaluate their significance, and guide projects to successful outcomes.

• Independently architect solutions for intricate, cross-domain challenges.

• Create and develop scalable 3D geospatial solutions utilizing the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript.

• Enhance spatial data workflows and query efficiency.

• Establish end-to-end solution architecture, DevSecOps tools, and processes using Octopus Deploy and cloud technologies.

• Collaborate with product technical leads to design products and enhancements, engaging in analysis, coding, and testing.

• Leverage AI coding assistants and enterprise software agents to create, test, and refine production-quality code.

• Refine underlying code and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.

• Take ownership of quality assurance through unit, system integration, and user acceptance testing.

• Develop and enhance testing frameworks.

• Address complex failures and lead independent resolution, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.

• Work alongside Product Managers and business stakeholders on product strategy and iterations.

• Mentor junior engineers.

• Provide continuous support for organizational applications.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Practical experience with the ArcGIS Maps SDK for JavaScript (4.x), including 3D development and spatial data publishing and serving.

• Hands-on experience with modern LLM APIs from various providers, covering prompt engineering, tool use/function calling, structured outputs, and context engineering.

• Strong capability to review, validate, and debug AI-generated code.

• Thorough understanding of backend systems, microservice architectures, and distributed systems utilizing C#, Python, or Node.js.

• Frontend experience with React; experience with Angular or Vue.js is also acceptable.

• Proven experience in designing and maintaining RESTful APIs.

• Significant experience with a leading cloud platform.

• Familiarity with relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or MySQL, as well as NoSQL databases.

• Working knowledge of CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and containerization technologies.

• Demonstrated ownership of testing strategies across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers, including the development or improvement of testing frameworks.

• Experience in triaging production failures and independently driving root cause analysis to resolution.
