Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership and enhance the complete architecture across frontend, mobile, backend services, and data platforms.

• Create scalable and fault-tolerant distributed systems that accommodate millions of users and sensitive healthcare information.

• Establish and promote the adoption of architectural patterns among frontend, backend, and mobile teams.

• Facilitate design reviews and draft RFCs for intricate, multi-team projects.

• Ensure that systems fulfill enterprise-grade standards for availability, performance, observability, and compliance.

• Develop modern web applications utilizing React and TypeScript.

• Set frontend architectural benchmarks for state management, API design, component structure, performance, and accessibility.

• Collaborate with design and product teams to ensure consistent and high-quality user experiences.

• Contribute to and shape Foodsmart’s architecture for iOS, Android, and React Native applications.

• Work together on mobile patterns including offline support, caching, push notifications, deep linking, analytics, and app release workflows.

• Design and maintain high-performance REST and event-driven APIs.

• Create durable SQL and NoSQL data models.

• Build backend systems using TypeScript/Node.js and AWS-native services.

• Lead decisions on data modeling, migrations, and improvements in maintainability.

• Implement designs that are HIPAA-compliant and prioritize privacy in collaboration with security and compliance teams.

• Advocate for AI-assisted workflows and set responsible AI usage guidelines.

• Identify opportunities for AI/ML capabilities in areas such as personalization, automation, and workflow optimization.

• Propel cloud-native architecture utilizing Docker and Kubernetes.

• Enhance CI/CD processes, infrastructure-as-code, deployment safety, observability, alerting, incident response, and postmortems.

• Identify and address scalability, performance, and reliability challenges.

• Collaborate with product, design, data, clinical, and business teams.

• Influence roadmap decisions and spearhead cross-team initiatives.

• Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers.

• Elevate engineering standards through code reviews, design feedback, and technical mentoring.

• Foster shared ownership, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement.

• Encourage the adoption of shared libraries, patterns, and platform capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, showcasing significant ownership of full-stack systems in production settings.

• Proven track record of leading complex initiatives across frontend, backend, and/or mobile domains.

• Experience in influencing architectural and technical directions beyond a single team.

• Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript in both backend and frontend systems.

• Extensive experience in building modern web applications with React.

• Familiarity with mobile applications (native iOS/Android and/or React Native).

• Solid understanding of frontend performance optimization, accessibility, and scalable UI architecture.

• Strong experience in designing and managing RESTful APIs and event-driven architectures.

• Advanced knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and some familiarity with NoSQL systems.

• Strong experience with AWS services, including Lambda, SQS, RDS, DynamoDB, EC2, IAM, and networking.

• Comprehensive understanding of distributed systems principles, including consistency, caching, concurrency, and fault tolerance.

• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.

• Solid grasp of SDLC, Agile methodologies, CI/CD, QA automation, and DevOps best practices.

• Demonstrated ability to lead through influence rather than authority.

• Clear and structured communication of complex technical concepts to a variety of stakeholders.

• Proven history of promoting shared standards, platforms, or engineering best practices.

• Experience in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated sectors is a plus.

• Familiarity with HIPAA compliance, PHI security, and privacy-first design is an added advantage.

• Exposure to Retool is a nice-to-have.

• Experience with cloud data warehouses like Redshift is a bonus.

• Experience collaborating with globally distributed teams is a plus.

• Experience in building design systems or shared UI component libraries is a nice-to-have.
