Staff Software Engineer

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Provide technical guidance across teams and projects, delivering interrelated solutions that align with the company's objectives.

β€’ Design, enhance, and maintain backend systems and architecture, primarily utilizing Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, REST, and associated technologies.

β€’ Shape long-term technical strategy, balancing immediate delivery with platform integrity, scalability, and sustainability.

β€’ Identify, anticipate, and mitigate technical and operational risks throughout the organization.

β€’ Clarify technical decisions, trade-offs, and direction in uncertain or high-stakes situations.

β€’ Establish and maintain high standards for code quality, security, privacy, observability, and documentation through direct involvement, review, and mentorship.

β€’ Provide consultation and advice across functions on intricate technical challenges, high-risk areas, and strategic initiatives.

β€’ Champion and investigate new ideas, tools, and technologies that enhance developer experience, team productivity, and product outcomes.

β€’ Cultivate inclusive, psychologically safe workplaces where engineers can perform at their best and develop professionally.

β€’ Serve as a force multiplier by empowering teams and individuals without overshadowing or sidelining others.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ Extensive professional experience in building and leading software systems (typically over 15 years, with significant impact valued across those years).

β€’ Advanced expertise in Ruby on Rails and backend system architecture.

β€’ Proficient in React/React Native.

β€’ Strong comprehension of full-stack architecture, monolithic application patterns, and scalable backend systems.

β€’ Experience in designing and managing production systems utilizing PostgreSQL and REST APIs.

β€’ Familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure, including AWS.

β€’ Strong independent judgment and the ability to navigate complex, ambiguous challenges.

β€’ Capacity to convey technical concepts clearly and empathetically to diverse audiences.

β€’ Proven track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical choices across teams.

β€’ Must reside and work permanently in the United States; CompanyCam is not positioned to hire outside the U.S.
