Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of AlphaSense’s Excel plugin strategy.

• Create a seamless connection between AlphaSense’s AI platform and Microsoft Excel.

• Deliver a plugin utilized by thousands of analysts at top financial institutions.

• Simplify AI-driven research to the ease of typing an Excel formula.

• Minimize context-switching between Excel and research platforms.

• Establish a solid technical foundation and best practices for the Office integration strategy.

• Guide a team of engineers in desktop development.

• Enhance quality and performance standards for the product.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in building and operating large-scale production systems.

• Profound knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript and contemporary development practices.

• Strong grasp of asynchronous programming, state management, and event-driven architectures.

• Experience with enterprise software deployment, updates, and version control.

• Proven success in developing high-performance applications with robust error handling and recovery mechanisms.

• Expertise in troubleshooting complex integration challenges and optimizing memory/performance.

• Capability to mentor teams and establish best practices in development.

• Preferred experience with Office JavaScript API, VSTO, or COM add-ins.

• Preferred knowledge of Excel's calculation engine, object model, and common power-user patterns.

• Preferred understanding of financial modeling, data analysis workflows, or trading systems.

• Familiarity with React/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks is preferred.

• Preferred experience in building offline-capable applications with synchronization mechanisms.

• Experience with WebSocket, real-time data feeds, or streaming architectures is preferred.

• Familiarity with Office JavaScript API / Office Add-ins framework.

• Experience with TypeScript, React, and contemporary frontend tools.

• Knowledge of enterprise authentication methods (SSO, OAuth, SAML).

• Experience supporting both Windows and Mac environments.
