
Staff Software Engineer – AI Center of Excellence

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Act as the technical leader for the AI Center of Excellence by establishing engineering patterns, frameworks, and best practices that facilitate AI-assisted software development throughout the organization.
• Design and implement scalable multi-agent AI harnesses and developer workflows to expedite software delivery while ensuring security, reliability, and governance.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to modernize existing applications and guide the incorporation of AI-driven development practices across various product domains.
• Architect cloud-native solutions utilizing Azure, AWS, infrastructure-as-code, and contemporary DevOps practices to enable enterprise-scale software delivery.
• Assess emerging AI tools, local and hosted LLMs, inference frameworks, SDKs, and orchestration technologies, recommending solutions that align with business goals.
• Develop reusable engineering standards, reference implementations, and technical frameworks that empower teams to build AI-powered applications consistently.
• Mentor engineers across the organization, serving as a trusted technical advisor while assisting teams in adopting modern software engineering and AI development methodologies.
• Work closely with product, infrastructure, security, and architecture teams to ensure that AI solutions comply with enterprise standards for scalability, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Lead proof-of-concepts through to production deployment, showcasing measurable enhancements in developer productivity and software delivery.
• Build and manage a small team of engineers as the AI Center of Excellence expands.
• Proven expertise in designing and delivering intricate software systems within modern cloud environments.
• Extensive experience in developing production software using Python and at least one compiled language such as Go or .NET.
• Strong proficiency in Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms, cloud-native architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code utilizing Terraform or similar technologies.
• Demonstrated experience in integrating AI capabilities into software development workflows, including familiarity with LLM APIs, SDKs, agent frameworks, orchestration platforms, or local inference solutions.
• Solid understanding of secure software engineering, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and modern software delivery methodologies.
• Experience in developing architectural standards, reusable frameworks, and engineering patterns that are utilized by multiple development teams.
• Ability to influence technical direction across teams through collaboration, mentorship, and technical leadership rather than relying on organizational authority.
• Comfortable working in Agile environments with a focus on pragmatic, iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
• Exceptional communication skills with the capacity to translate complex technical concepts for both engineering and executive audiences.
