Staff Software Development Engineer – SDM

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the architectural framework and technical guidance for highly concurrent, distributed backend systems developed in Go across various teams.

• Drive the design decisions for proxy data-plane gateways, relays, and control-plane services.

• Shape multi-quarter system roadmaps in collaboration with architects, product managers, and DevOps/SRE leadership.

• Guide the implementation of secure network protocols and cryptographic systems, including TLS/mTLS, credential brokering, and key management.

• Oversee cross-team code and design reviews with a focus on performance, security, and maintainability.

• Investigate and resolve complex technical challenges in distributed, multi-cloud production environments.

• Author and maintain documentation related to architectural and technical strategies.

• Mentor engineers and direct the efforts of others as necessary.

• Report directly to the team’s engineering manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field.

• 8+ years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Profound expertise in Go (Golang), distributed systems, and backend/network service development at scale.

• Proven experience in architecting highly concurrent, distributed systems.

• Familiarity with Go standard networking and cryptography libraries.

• Strong knowledge of distributed systems, network protocols, and API design, including gRPC/Protobuf and/or RESTful APIs.

• Experience with AWS or another major cloud provider, and cloud-native deployment models at production scale.

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.

• Capability to articulate advanced technical concepts and persuade a diverse range of stakeholders and audiences.

• Ability to establish formal working relationships and coordinate efforts across multiple teams and functions.

• Conceptual thinking skills for grasping advanced technical issues and broader business implications.

• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and serving as a subject matter expert.

• Experience with multiple cloud platforms beyond a single provider is a plus.

• Familiarity with influencing Terraform automation and CI/CD standards is a plus.

• Expertise in secure protocols, mTLS and PKI, secrets management, and credential brokering is a plus.

• Familiarity with proxying database, SSH/RDP, Kubernetes, and HTTP traffic, as well as building CLI or desktop client tools is a plus.

• Experience in shaping Zero Trust architecture, just-in-time access models, and policy-as-code such as Cedar is a plus.
