This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Quickly gain a thorough understanding of our complete data platform, including its architecture, data flows, business logic, and system interdependencies, to form the basis of a testing strategy;
• Collaborate with our application QA Engineering Team to comprehend our current testing strategies and tools; this insight will enable you to identify areas for improvement in data testing;
• Design, architect, and spearhead the implementation of an integration testing framework for the Organizer application's streaming data platform, ensuring it complements the existing infrastructure;
• Create automated validations that query and compare data across various storage systems (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB, Pinot) to guarantee end-to-end data accuracy;
• Integrate automated tests within CI/CD pipelines to set regression baselines and continuously validate the development of new features;
• Develop tests that meticulously account for eventual consistency, asynchronous processing, and time-sensitive behaviors inherent in distributed systems;
• Define and take ownership of the long-term quality and testing strategy for the data platform, aligning it with the organization's goals for reliability, observability, and engineering excellence;
• Assess, select, and integrate tools, frameworks, and technologies to enhance automation and data validation capabilities throughout the organization;
• Implement automated performance and throughput benchmarks for essential pipeline components and establish the standards for evaluating results;
• Engage in engineering design reviews with a quality-first perspective, ensuring that testability, observability, and data correctness are ingrained in systems from the outset;
• Actively identify, analyze, and resolve data quality issues and systemic reliability risks; collaborate with data engineers to implement solutions and preventative strategies;
• Lead post-incident reviews for data quality events, documenting clear timelines, facilitating root cause analysis, and ensuring follow-through on remediation action items;
• Mentor engineers across the data platform and QA teams, promoting testing best practices and enhancing the overall quality culture of the team;
• Advocate for the quality posture of the data platform in cross-functional technical discussions, influencing engineering standards across teams.
• Over 12 years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or SDET roles, with a proven track record demonstrating strong software development fundamentals;
• Advanced proficiency in Python (or equivalent programming language) and experience in writing maintainable, production-quality code;
• Proven experience in designing and architecting complex test frameworks or automation systems, possessing strong, well-reasoned opinions on best practices;
• Extensive experience with streaming data pipelines, event-driven architectures, or distributed data systems (e.g., Kafka, Spark, Flink, or equivalent);
• Strong understanding of NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB) as well as relational databases;
• Experience in testing or constructing systems in cloud-native, serverless environments (e.g., EventBridge, Lambda, asynchronous workflows);
• Familiarity with testing GraphQL or REST APIs;
• A genuine enthusiasm for testing as a discipline: someone who views quality engineering as a craft rather than merely a checkbox;
• Demonstrated ability to work with a high level of autonomy: capable of scoping ambiguous problems, formulating a plan, and driving toward outcomes independently;
• Established experience in influencing testing or quality strategy across teams or within an engineering organization;
• Excellent debugging and analytical capabilities in complex, distributed, data-intensive environments;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of documenting architectural decisions and presenting technical approaches to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
• Comprehensive health, vision, and dental insurance with 100% of premiums covered for you and eligible family members;
• Retirement benefits featuring a 5% employer match;
• A flexible unlimited PTO policy;
• Generous paid parental leave;
• Pre-tax commuter benefits;
• A company-provided laptop;
• A flexible remote work environment;
• A home office setup stipend for all new employees;
• Monthly reimbursement for expenses related to remote work;
• An annual professional development fund;
• Mental health and wellness benefits provided through Calm and Better Help;
• Annual in-person staff retreats;
