Staff Production Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in reliability work within large-scale distributed systems.

• Previous roles as an engineer integrated with or closely collaborating with a product or feature team, rather than being isolated in a platform organization.

• Proven experience in building substantial applications using Java, Go, Rust, C++, or similar systems programming languages at a production scale; practical knowledge over theoretical understanding.

• Familiarity with sharding, replication, failure modes, and consistency trade-offs in real-world systems.

• Ability to quickly adapt to an unfamiliar codebase, identify issues, and implement effective solutions.

• Demonstrated success in enhancing systems through knowledge and trust.

• Understanding of the network stack and familiar with traffic patterns at scale.

• Sufficient kernel-level insight to analyze system misbehaviors including process scheduling, memory, I/O, and the network stack.

• Knowledge of concepts such as consistent hashing, leader election, consensus, backpressure, and circuit breakers.

• Experience in instrumenting systems effectively, creating tracing, dashboards, and alerts that accurately indicate issues.

• Proficient in profiling JVM applications or systems-level processes, identifying overlooked issues, and implementing lasting fixes.

• In-depth knowledge of AWS, understanding its behaviors under load and at the edges.

• Experience with on-call duties in a serious production environment, with insights on effective incident management practices.
