Staff Product Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the complete bank product lifecycle. Act as the primary product owner for deposits, loan originations, banking compliance, and operations. You will possess a comprehensive understanding of the bank's role within Affirm's ecosystem and drive its advancement.

• Spearhead and manage the bank’s deposit product. Launch Affirm’s bank deposit offering and subsequently oversee the deposit product roadmap as it evolves — scaling from initial launch to a multi-billion-dollar deposit base, making strategic choices on how deposits interact with Affirm's credit products and the overall consumer experience.

• Operationalize the establishment of the de novo bank. Lead the cross-functional initiatives required to set up and expand bank operations — ensuring readiness for regulation, process development, vendor partnerships, and seamless integration with Affirm's existing lending and money movement systems.

• Propel originations through the bank entity. Define the approach for how Affirm originates and retains loans through its own bank, collaborating closely with Credit, Capital Markets, Engineering, and Treasury to optimize volume growth, unit economics, loan sale and retention strategies, as well as regulatory compliance.

• Navigate the landscape of banking compliance and regulatory obligations. Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Risk, and the Bank's executive team to ensure all products and operations adhere to federal and state regulations. Integrate compliance considerations into the product from the outset — rather than as an afterthought. Grasp the unique challenges faced by a de novo bank under FDIC and state oversight.

• Seamlessly incorporate the bank deposit product into Affirm's consumer ecosystem. Establish clear domain boundaries, design requirements for new data flows, and integration points between the bank and Affirm Inc. — working collaboratively with Servicing, Settlements, Consumer Payments, Checkout, and Growth teams to ensure the bank's products function smoothly within the Affirm application and platform.

• Influence across the organization at all levels. Articulate strategy, trade-offs, and priorities to senior leadership and the Bank Board with clarity and confidence. Foster alignment among a diverse range of stakeholders — Engineering, Legal, Compliance, Treasury, Capital Markets, and executive leadership — each having unique constraints and motivations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of product management experience, showcasing the ability to operate as a strategic, independent leader on complex, ambiguous projects.

• Proven track record of program leadership at scale — you have led high-visibility cross-functional launches involving numerous stakeholders, with direct exposure to executive leadership and/or boards.

• Experience in banking, deposits, or lending — you possess an understanding of deposit products, bank charter operations, or loan origination processes and the regulatory environment surrounding them.

• Preferably, experience with bank charters — having participated in or significantly contributed to a de novo bank launch or early-stage bank establishment.

• Strong background in deposit product strategy is a plus — you have defined or expanded deposit products such as high-yield savings accounts, spending accounts, or CDs, and comprehend the factors influencing deposit growth, pricing, and consumer acquisition.

• Familiarity with fintech, financial services, or banking; knowledge of BNPL, neobanking, or platform products is advantageous.

• High technical proficiency — comfortable collaborating with engineers on system design, data models, API architecture, and core banking platform integrations.

• Proficiency in using AI-assisted tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor) to enhance your work efficiency and elevate quality and speed.

• Demonstrated capability to facilitate cross-functional alignment across Legal, Compliance, Engineering, Finance, and executive leadership in highly regulated environments.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills — able to translate complex regulatory and financial concepts into clear, engaging narratives for diverse audiences including regulators, executives, and engineering teams.

• A proactive mindset and intellectual curiosity — you take initiative, ask challenging questions, and assume ownership without needing prompting.

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
