This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership of the complete guest discovery journey across search, filtering and refinement, results, map and list, listing pages, as well as entry points from organic search and AI assistants.
• Ensure consistency across both brands and between web and mobile platforms.
• Establish and advocate for the information hierarchy of search results cards based on guest intents and real-world data states.
• Enhance the legibility of inferred interfaces, facilitate easy corrections, and minimize guest verification efforts.
• Formulate the structured representation of experiences, offers, and operators to ensure compatibility with third-party assistants.
• Engage in continuous discovery in collaboration with a Product Manager and engineering tech lead.
• Select suitable design artifacts and levels of fidelity in accordance with the decisions being made.
• Identify success metrics prior to release and evaluate outcomes post-release.
• Deliver narrow, complete slices swiftly, ensuring states and accessibility are properly managed.
• Collaborate with engineering, support, and pricing teams while adhering to the design system and WCAG 2.1 AA standards.
• Report directly to the Director of Design and act as the dedicated designer within the pod.
• Significant ownership experience in search, browse, or discovery within a two-sided marketplace.
• Proficiency with relevance surfaces, faceted filtering, availability and pricing displays, map and list, and comparison features.
• Capability to design information hierarchies and justify decisions with supporting evidence.
• Experience designing systems that infer, rank, or predict, including real-time communication of state and confidence.
• Ability to create correction pathways for inaccurate system inferences.
• A perspective on search in an AI-centric environment, including identifying when conversation is inappropriate.
• Familiarity with entities, states, and contracts, in collaboration with a tech lead is advantageous.
• A focus on restraint and typographic skill in high-information surfaces is beneficial.
• Experience utilizing AI tools in personal practice is a plus.
• Knowledge of search relevance, structured data and schema, third-party assistant interfaces, and experience in travel, hospitality, or local-services search at scale are advantageous but not mandatory.
• A portfolio showcasing two or three in-depth case studies, including problem validation, experiments, abandoned approaches, rationale for hierarchy, designed states, shipped work, measured impact, and at least one unsuccessful project.
• Relevant degrees in design, HCI, or information architecture are appreciated but not obligatory.
• Emphasis on portfolio and delivered, measurable work over formal credentials.
• Ability to work remotely with a high overlap in Eastern Time hours in the United States.
