Staff Product Designer – Design Systems, Foundations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and enhance ZUI, Zipline's design system, which includes component architecture, design tokens, accessibility standards, documentation, and implementation quality. Collaborate closely with engineering to ensure the system evolves in tandem with our product and technical architecture.

• Develop shared interaction patterns, mental models, and design principles that foster consistency throughout the product. Convert insights gained from product work into reusable systems, frameworks, and foundations that can be scaled across teams.

• Create documentation, guidance, and decision-making frameworks that enable designers, engineers, and PMs to work independently and consistently. Promote the adoption of the design system and product foundations throughout the organization.

• Engage in complex product initiatives, influence the long-term direction of the product, and assist in defining how emerging technologies, including AI, are integrated into our design practices and workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in leading or significantly contributing to a design system at scale.

• Strong systems thinking across interaction design, workflows, information architecture, and visual design.

• Proven track record of driving alignment and adoption among cross-functional teams.

• Exceptional visual and interaction design skills.

• Strong collaborative relationship with engineering and a solid understanding of implementation constraints.

• Ability to work comfortably in ambiguous situations and shape long-term product foundations.

• Interest in exploring the potential of AI to enhance design workflows and product development.

• Nice to Have: Experience designing for frontline, retail, or operational workflows.

• Experience in a platform, systems, or other cross-cutting design role.

• Familiarity with contemporary design system governance and documentation practices.

• Experience in creating structured design contexts that can be utilized by AI tools.
