Staff Product Designer – Design Systems, Foundations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and enhance ZUI, Zipline’s design system, which encompasses component architecture, design tokens, accessibility standards, documentation, and implementation quality.

• Create shared interaction patterns, mental models, and design principles that ensure consistency throughout the product.

• Convert insights gained from product work into reusable systems, frameworks, and foundations that can be scaled across various teams.

• Develop the documentation, guidance, and decision-making frameworks that empower designers, engineers, and PMs to work independently and consistently.

• Promote the adoption of the design system and product foundations throughout the organization.

• Engage in complex product initiatives, influence long-term product strategy, and assist in defining how emerging technologies, such as AI, are integrated into our design practices and workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in leading or significantly contributing to a large-scale design system.

• Strong systems thinking skills encompassing interaction design, workflows, information architecture, and visual design.

• Demonstrated ability to foster alignment and adoption among cross-functional teams.

• Exceptional skills in visual and interaction design.

• Solid partnership with engineering and a clear understanding of implementation constraints.

• Ability to navigate ambiguity and shape long-term product foundations.

• Interest in exploring how AI can enhance design workflows and product development.

• Experience designing for frontline, retail, or operational workflows (Nice to Have).

• Background in platform, systems, or other cross-cutting design roles (Nice to Have).

• Familiarity with modern design system governance and documentation practices (Nice to Have).

• Experience creating structured design contexts that can be utilized by AI tools (Nice to Have).
