This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.
• Define and enhance the comprehensive developer experience across Walrus's product interfaces and essential workflows.
• Lead discovery initiatives alongside product and engineering by articulating challenges, pinpointing unresolved inquiries, and ascertaining required evidence.
• Conduct interviews with developers and usability evaluations, prototype solutions, and distill findings into actionable insights.
• Design intricate technical workflows that involve dense data, system states, configurations, resource management, and critical actions.
• Shape product direction and challenge existing assumptions within product and engineering teams.
• Establish and uphold Walrus's design system, including shared components, interaction patterns, and product principles.
• Benchmark similar developer and infrastructure products.
• Collaborate closely with engineering during development, design quality assurance, and the integration of partner requirements and feedback.
• Set and maintain standards for high-quality developer-product design as the organization expands.
• 8–10 years of experience in product design with proven ownership of complex technical products.
• A portfolio showcasing ownership of released developer tools, cloud/infrastructure products, consoles, dashboards, or other similarly intricate technical products.
• Capability to simplify technically complex workflows while retaining necessary control and information.
• Strong interaction design skills across data-intensive interfaces, tables, configurations, complex states, progressive disclosure, permissions, errors, and critical actions.
• Experience in independently identifying and framing product challenges rather than solely executing predefined requirements.
• Proven history of influencing product strategy and roadmap decisions through design.
• Strong instincts for qualitative research and experience with light user research and usability testing.
• Experience in creating or significantly evolving design systems and reusable interaction patterns.
• Strong collaboration with engineering and a commitment to staying engaged throughout implementation and design quality assurance.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to constructively disagree with senior product and engineering partners.
• Comfort in operating autonomously within an ambiguous, rapidly changing technical environment.
• Legally authorized to work in the location where the role is based.
