This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Take ownership and lead the architecture of gameplay systems across AtomEngine, offering technical direction on intricate, cross-functional issues.
• Provide architectural guidance on several simultaneous projects — enhancing the quality and success rate of feature delivery.
• Work closely with designers and project managers to refine features from initial concept to final delivery, ensuring technical feasibility, performance, and alignment with schedules.
• Develop and optimize gameplay systems utilizing Godot, GDScript, and C++.
• Design with a comprehensive understanding of client/server architecture, state replication, latency, and scalability.
• Collaborate with QA and testing teams to validate features, uncover edge cases, and promote quality results.
• Mentor mid-level and junior engineers — focus on the growth of the team as a whole, not just your own contributions.
• Create and maintain clear technical documentation to support long-term maintainability and facilitate collaboration across teams.
• Over 7 years of experience in game engine or gameplay engineering, with proven expertise at the Staff level or equivalent.
• Extensive knowledge of and experience customizing game engines — including Godot, Unity, Unreal, or bespoke solutions.
• Ability to recognize and foster emergent behaviors across various interacting systems.
• Experience in launching and maintaining live service games on a large scale.
• Demonstrated skill in architecting complex gameplay systems and effectively communicating technical decisions to cross-functional teams.
• History of enhancing engineering quality and productivity within a team, beyond just personal work.
