This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.
• Lead architectural decisions related to accessibility infrastructure, ensuring it scales to facilitate accessible-by-default development throughout Canva.
• Spearhead essential cross-team accessibility initiatives from initial concept to final production, creating frameworks and patterns that can be independently adopted by teams.
• Design, develop, and implement hands-on solutions while collaborating with leads, designers, and product managers to deliver accessible experiences globally.
• Mentor engineers and advocate for accessibility best practices across the organization, raising standards throughout the company.
• Influence the technical direction and product vision, ensuring that accessibility is integrated into Canva's strategic roadmap.
• Engage senior stakeholders to align accessibility initiatives with business objectives and secure support throughout the organization.
• Develop tools and documentation that enable teams to efficiently create accessible features.
• Demonstrate initiative and accountability in addressing technical debt, enhancing processes, and scaling accessibility solutions.
• Recognize and pursue opportunities for cross-team collaboration that further our accessibility mission.
• Thoughtfully incorporate AI into accessibility workflows to enhance efficiency, inclusion, and innovation.
• A seasoned technical leader who still enjoys coding — proactive, results-oriented, and focused on impact.
• Extensive expertise in accessibility engineering, including WCAG 2.2 AA, ATAG 2.0, and universal design principles, along with a deep understanding of various disability models.
• Strong frontend skills (JavaScript, React, TypeScript, MobX) combined with robust computer science fundamentals in architecture and design patterns.
• Strategic mindset that aligns technical decisions with company-wide priorities and develops scalable solutions.
• Proven history of delivering high-impact projects with minimal supervision, especially in developer tooling and platform initiatives.
• Lead by example — mentor peers, elevate engineering standards, and promote inclusive development practices.
• Confident in engaging senior stakeholders and conveying technical accessibility concepts to diverse audiences.
