Staff Forward Deployed Engineer

📋 Description

• Taking full responsibility for customer interactions by conducting discovery sessions, designing multi-cloud deployments, writing high-quality production code, and overseeing projects through to production launch.

• Developing intricate data pipelines, models, and integrations across cloud data platforms to ensure customers achieve the primary objectives for which they adopted Maia.

• Directly altering Matillion’s codebase when essential platform features are lacking, while adhering to rigorous engineering, security, and quality standards.

• Delivering rapid and practical MVPs by identifying genuine customer issues, challenging initial requirements, and reducing scope to expedite platform adoption.

• Building executive trust and acting as a cross-functional facilitator across Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Success to address complex escalations at the initial point of contact.

• Empowering complete customer self-sufficiency by training internal champions and producing clear handover documentation for Customer Success and Support teams upon project conclusion.

• Achieving technical victories during pre-sales activities through technical discovery, proof-of-concept demonstrations, objection resolution, and collaborative strategy efforts with Account Executives.

• Shaping product development by recognizing recurring delivery patterns, providing structured product feedback, and creating reusable implementation frameworks that reduce future custom work.

• Adopting an agentic-first approach by integrating AI tools throughout the entire delivery lifecycle while establishing clear quality validation standards for AI-generated results.

• Enhancing team performance by mentoring junior engineers, defining hiring criteria, refining delivery processes, and continuously updating knowledge in emerging AI and cloud technologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in production-level software development and data integration, demonstrating expertise in Python, SQL, and object-oriented programming (Java/Go) for designing reusable architectures and refactoring complex codebases.

• In-depth understanding of distributed systems, data architecture, CI/CD, Kubernetes, secure enterprise networking, and proficiency in at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

• Practical experience with scalable data pipelines and cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, or BigQuery, along with familiarity with the broader Matillion product suite.

• Disciplined application of AI tools throughout the delivery process with the ability to validate outputs, complemented by optional experience with production LLMs, RAG, and AI agents.

• Demonstrated experience in customer-facing technical delivery, encompassing pre-sales technical discovery, hands-on implementation, and escalation management.

• Exceptional communication abilities to engage with both C-suite executives and technical developers during intricate debugging sessions.

• Strong engineering judgment and systemic thinking to make informed architectural trade-offs between speed, scalability, and maintainability amidst uncertainty.

• A bias for execution and high autonomy to independently deliver functional production systems in high-pressure settings.

• Profound customer empathy and rapport-building skills that foster long-term trust with technical teams and executive stakeholders.
