Staff Enterprise Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and enhance GitLab's internal systems to ensure seamless integration, performance, and scalability for a rapidly expanding business.

• Utilize perspectives from business, application, data, and technology architecture, incorporating AI considerations throughout.

• Align business processes and capabilities with systems, stakeholders, and records management systems.

• Architect comprehensive processes encompassing product introduction, CPQ, quote-to-cash, billing, revenue recognition, renewals, record-to-report, and customer service.

• Revamp workflows and assess the proper application of AI agents, deterministic automation, and human participation.

• Develop high-level designs and frameworks for Salesforce, NetSuite, Zuora, Zendesk, Workato, and other essential platforms.

• Create maintainable and supportable integrations featuring observability, error handling, runbooks, and realistic total cost of ownership.

• Evaluate application modifications, data model alterations, and the addition of third-party packages.

• Conduct quarterly platform health assessments and generate reports detailing capacity, limits, trends, and ownership.

• Design operational and analytical data flows, including AI retrieval and grounding, APIs, events, pipelines, warehouse models, and reverse ETL.

• Establish controls for privacy, residency, SOX, security, data access, and AI data handling.

• Create integration and data contracts between systems.

• Define patterns for platform, integration, identity, access management, secrets handling, and AI-agent interfaces.

• Collaborate with teams from Infrastructure, Security, enterprise AI, Data, Applications, Integration, and RPA on reliability, security, governance, and scalability.

• Generate target-state architectures, decision records, reference patterns, and high-level designs ready for development.

• Co-author designs with engineering teams and provide support throughout the implementation process.

• Tackle complex technical challenges, develop proofs of concept, and diagnose production issues.

• Maintain inventories of technical debt and drive remediation through projects, upgrades, and migrations.

• Participate in architecture reviews as a member of the Architecture Review Board.

• Profound knowledge in application architecture and data architecture.

• Proficient understanding of business process and technology architecture.

• Expertise in AI as a functional lens across business, application, data, and technology architecture.

• Strong practical experience in integration, automation, and applied AI.

• Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, tool calling, and agent orchestration on platforms such as Claude.

• Experience in AI evaluation and establishing guardrails.

• Proficiency in utilizing AI in everyday tasks, including AI-assisted development.

• Experience in architecting ERP, CRM, CPQ, billing, financial, and customer service platforms.

• Knowledge of quote-to-cash and record-to-report processes.

• Expert-level understanding of data modeling, integration architecture patterns, and API design.

• Practical experience with data warehouses and pipelines for ELT, ETL, and reverse ETL.

• In-depth proficiency in iPaaS tools and operational integration.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms.

• Proven track record of influencing architectural change.

• Capacity to articulate trade-offs in clear business terminology to Director and VP stakeholders.
