Staff Engineer – Heartbeat AI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Lead the technical vision across Heartbeat AI’s engineering sectors, including Mobile Applications, Energy Data, and the IoT platform.

• Ensure the architecture remains in alignment with the product strategy.

• Guarantee consistent execution of technical decisions while holding the team accountable for their implementation.

• Establish technical standards and address the most challenging technical issues.

• Convert business and product requirements into technical solutions.

• Mentor and inspire Heartbeat AI engineers.

• Foster and sustain a high-performing engineering culture.

• Integrate security and reliability as key customer-facing values.

• Design systems and APIs for AI agents, incorporating machine-readable contracts and structured error handling.

• Propel Heartbeat AI’s transition towards agentic engineering.

• Oversee the architecture of the AI systems that drive the product, from EMS to energy tariffs.

• Report directly to the CTO.


⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of practical software development experience.

• Extensive hands-on expertise with various general-purpose programming languages.

• Demonstrated success in architecting scalable and secure systems.

• Profound experience in designing and implementing APIs for system integration and communication.

• Agile, results-focused mindset with a strong emphasis on collaboration and teamwork.

• Ability to engage with stakeholders using business terminology and comprehend technical implications.

• Experience in driving technical alignment and executing critical technical decisions in fast-paced settings.

• Familiarity with designing systems and APIs for agent consumption, including structured errors and clear contracts.

• Capability to lead an engineering team through the transition to agentic engineering.

• Experience in architecting AI/ML-driven or data-intensive systems, preferably within the energy or IoT sectors.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Proficiency in German is advantageous.
