Staff Engineer – Distributed Data Systems, Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Create and enhance distributed data architectures that can accommodate substantial increases in traffic, data volume, and engineering complexity.

• Build reusable infrastructure components, frameworks, and platform capabilities designed for scalable systems.

• Recognize limitations in current systems and spearhead initiatives related to data distribution, sharding, replication, migrations, and architectural modernization.

• Shape database technology selections, architectural frameworks, and long-term infrastructure strategies.

• Direct initiatives aimed at enhancing scalability, resource efficiency, and reducing infrastructure costs.

• Design systems that maintain resilience under high throughput, infrastructure failures, and varying workloads.

• Set engineering standards and create reusable solutions that mitigate recurring issues across teams.

• Collaborate with senior engineers and engineering leadership to translate company-wide challenges into actionable technical programs.

• Assume responsibility for significant infrastructure challenges and facilitate systems to function at a much larger scale.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 9 years of robust software engineering experience, including extensive hands-on expertise in designing and developing distributed systems, backend infrastructure, or large-scale data platforms, with proven Staff-level technical influence.

• Solid software engineering foundation with a history of designing and constructing production infrastructure, rather than merely operating or managing it.

• Experience in architecting systems that manage multi-terabyte datasets and 30K–50K+ operations per second, or equivalent large-scale distributed workloads.

• Profound understanding of distributed systems principles, encompassing partitioning, sharding, replication, consistency, concurrency, fault tolerance, and data distribution.

• Extensive hands-on experience with both relational and NoSQL database architectures, including their design principles, scalability attributes, and trade-offs.

• Proven track record of leading intricate architectural initiatives that involve multiple systems and engineering teams.

• Capability to pinpoint systemic technical challenges and devise solutions that enhance infrastructure organization-wide.

• Strong technical judgment, accountability, and the ability to influence architectural choices without formal authority.

• Extensive experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.

• Familiarity with one or more distributed database technologies like MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB, or similar systems.

• Experience with distributed SQL, search infrastructure, analytical databases, or other large-scale storage systems is a plus.
