Staff Engineer, Core Flight Controls

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and execute flight control systems for our aircraft automation platform.

• Break down system requirements into detailed, low-level flight control specifications.

• Assist in the creation and utilization of simulation tools necessary for development and testing, including Simulink for control law modeling, and conducting analyses with MATLAB and Python.

• Engage in flight testing for system identification and to validate control law performance across various aircraft types.

• Take full ownership of the flight control system from inception to completion, ensuring successful product delivery to both programs and customers.

• Collaborate with teams across Merlin to innovate and develop certifiable systems aimed at addressing the most challenging issues in aviation and autonomy.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.

• Over 5 years of experience in developing control systems for fixed-wing aircraft.

• Proven expertise in translating system requirements into high-level specifications for both outer loop and inner loop control designs.

• Experience in Model-Based Development and the certification processes for flight control systems.

• Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink or similar model-based development toolsets.

• History of designing, implementing, and testing software for real-time systems.

• Familiarity with linear model development, linear analysis, and frequency domain gain tuning techniques.
