Staff Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Identify issues that hinder business efficiency and promote solutions in collaboration with system owners.

• Oversee projects from inception to completion, empower team members for development, remove obstacles for contributors, and take responsibility for team deliverables.

• Establish engineering direction alongside technical leaders and determine tools, libraries, and practices across various departments.

• Develop metrics and document alternatives and trade-offs when data is lacking.

• Share designs early and provide documentation for decision-making rationale and uncertainties.

• Contribute code to tackle the team's most challenging problems and conduct timely code reviews.

• Ensure production reliability, operability, observability, recovery, and the long-term health of systems.

• Take swift ownership of production incidents, communicate effectively, drive resolutions, and review systems and decisions.

• Integrate AI seamlessly into engineering processes and establish fitting trust and verification standards.

• Act as a technology leader representing engineering to both internal and external stakeholders.

• Mentor engineers through compassionate feedback and demanding assignments.

• Assess candidates and maintain high engineering hiring standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.

• Proficiency in utilizing AI coding tools such as Claude, Gemini, Copilot, Cursor, Windsurf, and Codeium at an expert level.

• Code and designs must be accurate, thoroughly tested, secure, and maintainable.

• Proven experience in identifying and addressing business-critical technical challenges.

• Capability to steer technical direction with evidence-based concepts.

• Skill in creating metrics and assessing alternatives and trade-offs.

• Ability to design systems transparently and document decisions and uncertainties.

• Proficiency in shipping and reviewing code on complex technical challenges.

• Expertise in ensuring production reliability, operability, observability, recovery, and sustained health.

• Competence in responding to production incidents and facilitating root-cause resolutions.

• Experience in leveraging AI throughout engineering tasks and verifying its outputs appropriately.

• Ability to represent engineering to both internal and external clients.

• Capacity to mentor and develop engineers.

• Proficiency in evaluating engineering candidates against a consistent hiring standard.

• Ability to promptly identify risks, delays, and mistakes along with a proposed path forward.

• Skill in constructively managing technical disagreements.

• Capability to manage technical debt with documented costs and repayment strategies.
