Staff Design Technologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead design workflows powered by AI

• Develop and sustain our AI prototyping starter kits, repositories, and best practices

• Create internal scripts, tools, and processes that enhance the efficiency of the Product Design team

• Experiment with MCP Apps (external applications) and emerging UI patterns for agents, contributing to the design of AI-native and agent-driven experiences at Kong

• Stay updated on the latest advancements in AI tooling and empower the team with current best practices

• Foster reliable, ongoing relationships with frontend engineers

• Assist in minimizing discrepancies between design and implementation systems for the benefit of both teams

• Collaborate with colleagues in design systems, designers, and engineers to identify or revitalize reusable patterns

• Review and pinpoint opportunities to decrease one-off patterns and enhance cohesion across products

• Contribute to documentation, usage instructions, and governance, effectively enabling the team on updates

• Establish high standards for visual quality, interaction design, and usability across technical product experiences

• Exercise sound judgment in deciding when to adhere to conventions versus when to innovate

• Partner with designers to enhance consistency, polish, and accessibility

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Design Engineering, Product Design, Design Systems, or comparable hybrid roles focused on design

• Strong instincts for product and visual design, particularly for technical or developer-centric products

• Technical proficiency with modern frontend systems, enabling deep collaboration with engineers, meaningful contributions to shared systems, and the development of internal tools

• Practical experience with AI tooling, prototyping processes, or creating design-related scripts and automations

• Knowledge of Figma ↔ code workflows, including CodeConnect, design tokens, component APIs, Storybook, or similar

• Experience working closely with both designers and frontend engineers, acting as a collaborative partner

• Genuine enthusiasm for the potential of AI in product development, along with the initiative to guide your team towards that future

• Exceptional collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to build trust across different disciplines

• Strong systems thinking capability, balancing immediate needs with long-term scalability
