This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Take ownership of our Recovery Architecture.
• Design and construct our Isolated Recovery Environment.
• Conduct threat modeling of our environment with a comprehensive understanding of cloud-native attack patterns.
• Validate and continuously enhance backup configurations.
• Standardize and automate infrastructure processes.
• Lead the transition to fully adopting Infrastructure as Code.
• Develop automated recovery workflows.
• Create and maintain executable recovery playbooks.
• Validate, test, and oversee recovery exercises.
• Create automated scripts to perform smoke tests on recovered data.
• Conduct regular hands-on recovery drills.
• Uphold engineering standards.
• Serve as the resilience authority within the engineering organization.
• Collaborate with the Site Reliability Engineering team to design for high availability.
• Advocate for Infrastructure as Code and immutable infrastructure practices across teams.
• Over 8 years of experience in complex cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including at least 3 years in AWS.
• Experience with EKS/Kubernetes is a significant advantage.
• Proficient in Terraform.
• Hands-on experience with the Secure Vault pattern.
• Advanced shell scripting skills and proficiency in either Python or Go for automating restoration tasks.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (such as Scalr, GitHub Actions, or equivalent).
• Proven track record in engineering and automating end-to-end restoration workflows.
• Preferably has hands-on experience leading technical recovery efforts following a cyber attack or destructive incident.
• Experience with chaos engineering tools for stress-testing recovery assumptions is preferred.
• Knowledge of NIST SP 800-34 (Contingency Planning) or similar frameworks is preferred.
• AWS Security Specialty certification or equivalent demonstrated expertise is preferred.
