This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and oversee Hone's long-term cloud infrastructure strategy on Microsoft Azure, ensuring a balance between reliability, security, cost, and engineering efficiency.
• Guide the architecture and execution of complex infrastructure projects—including multi-region resilience, zero-trust networking, and platform-level developer tools—from design to production.
• Design and provision cloud infrastructure using Pulumi (TypeScript/Python), establishing the patterns, modules, and guardrails for other engineers to build upon.
• Create, manage, and enhance robust CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions, setting the benchmark for automated build, test, deployment, and rollback workflows.
• Set and enforce organization-wide infrastructure standards such as tagging policies, cost governance, security baselines, environment parity, and capacity planning for all environments.
• Enhance GitOps maturity within the engineering organization, advocating for infrastructure-as-code, pull-request-based change management, and complete audit trails.
• Work closely with Engineering, Product, and Security leadership to align business requirements with infrastructure roadmaps and investment strategies.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to senior and mid-level engineers; conduct architecture reviews to elevate the overall infrastructure engineering quality across the organization.
• Collaborate with security and compliance teams to devise and maintain HIPAA-compliant cloud configurations, including network segmentation, key management, secrets handling, and audit controls.
• Oversee disaster recovery strategies and business continuity planning, including infrastructure runbooks, chaos engineering initiatives, and large-scale failover testing.
• Promote operational excellence through observability tools (Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics) and establish SLO/SLA frameworks for essential services.
• Assess and advocate for emerging cloud-native services and tools, providing executive-level insights that shape Hone’s technical direction.
• Contribute to the wider engineering community through tech talks, documentation, code reviews, and collaboration across teams.
• 8+ years of experience in cloud engineering or DevOps, with a minimum of 5 years working on Microsoft Azure in a production setting.
• Proven success as a staff-level or principal engineer—guiding technical direction, leading cross-team initiatives, and affecting architectural decisions outside your immediate team.
• Extensive, hands-on production experience with Pulumi (strongly preferred) or similar IaC tools (Terraform, Bicep), capable of designing reusable module libraries and enforcing standards at scale.
• In-depth expertise in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions within large engineering organizations.
• Mastery of core Azure services: AKS, App Service, Azure Functions, Storage, Key Vault, Virtual Networks, Azure SQL, Service Bus, and Azure Networking (Hub-Spoke, Private Endpoints, NSG/UDR design).
• Proficient in various scripting and general-purpose languages (Python, TypeScript, PowerShell, Bash) for automation, tooling, and platform engineering tasks.
• Advanced understanding of GitOps principles, branching strategies, and infrastructure change management practices at an enterprise level.
• Exceptional experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS), including cluster operations, workload identity, autoscaling, and network policy in production.
• Strong familiarity with HIPAA compliance needs and cloud security best practices: zero-trust architecture, identity federation, secrets management, network isolation, and audit logging.
• Experience in designing and implementing SLO/SLA frameworks, capacity planning models, and FinOps programs at scale.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop senior engineers, influence without authority, and align technical efforts across multiple teams effectively.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a history of producing architecture decision records (ADRs), runbooks, and executive-facing technical presentations.
• A remote-first work environment.
• Competitive compensation and equity options.
• Health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
• Short-term disability and basic life insurance coverage.
• Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs).
• Lifestyle Spending Accounts (LSAs).
• Observance of federal holidays and unlimited time off for exempt employees.
• Budget for the technology tools you require (laptop, monitor, and/or specialized software).
• Emphasis on company-sponsored activities to promote engagement (both virtual and in-person).
• Waived membership fees for Hone team members utilizing Hone products.
