Staff Backend Engineer – Founding Team

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Serve as the founding engineer and assume complete ownership of the technology.

• Develop and advance Nola's backend systems from inception to implementation.

• Create scalable APIs, services, data models, and overall system architecture.

• Engage across the technology stack as needed, while primarily focusing on backend engineering.

• Leverage AI effectively throughout the engineering workflow to enhance speed and quality.

• Explore AI-native methods and construct AI-powered features where applicable.

• Collaborate closely with the founding team to influence product and technical decisions.

• Transition features from concept to production, encompassing design, implementation, testing, and iteration.

• Make practical technology choices suited for a small, agile team.

• Ensure the reliability, performance, security, and maintainability of the platform.

• Proactively identify technical challenges and resolve them independently.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7 to 10 years of experience in software engineering.

• Strong backend engineering experience complemented by full-stack capabilities.

• Primarily worked in product-oriented organizations.

• Demonstrated experience in taking products or significant features from inception to implementation.

• Strong sense of ownership with the ability to work autonomously in a lean team environment.

• Experience in designing backend systems, APIs, databases, and production services.

• Active user of AI in daily engineering tasks.

• Engagement in personal projects involving AI/LLMs or AI-powered tools.

• A curious mindset with a strong inclination for self-directed learning.

• Involvement in personal or open-source projects beyond standard job responsibilities.

• Comfortable making engineering and product decisions in loosely structured environments.

• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication abilities.

• Capacity to translate product requirements into straightforward, scalable solutions.

• Candidates must reside in India.

• Availability to join within 30 days is preferred.
