Staff Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Architect Critical Financial Systems: Design and develop payment processing, fraud detection, and compliance systems that manage millions of dollars daily while adhering to stringent regulatory standards.

• Lead Cross-Domain Solutions: Oversee intricate interactions among payments, fraud detection, user management, and compliance systems.

• Drive Technical Decisions: Steer architectural choices that influence our entire platform and set best practices for an expanding team.

• Mentor Engineers: Support junior engineers by establishing coding standards, design patterns, and engineering practices.

• Optimize System Performance: Enhance reliability and performance within our distributed microservices architecture.

• Collaborate Across Teams: Partner closely with product and compliance teams to create systems that align with business and regulatory requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience in developing complex, production systems.

• 3+ years of experience in technical leadership, including mentoring, making architectural decisions, and coordinating across teams.

• Proven systems engineering experience in addressing complex, cross-domain challenges.

• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and core computer science principles.

• Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and microservices.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is required.

• A Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering from an accredited institution is highly preferred.

• Experience in payment processing, fraud detection, or compliance systems is preferred.

• Knowledge of AML, KYC, PCI DSS, or similar regulations.

• Experience with financial APIs and systems for money movement.

• Experience with systems that handle high transaction volumes.

• Experience managing multiple external service integrations.
