This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Develop, enhance, and manage the Capabilities Engine as a fundamental platform for agentic product functionality.
• Create abstractions for agents and establish methods to discover, invoke, compose, observe, and enhance capabilities.
• Collaborate with contact-method owners across various channels including phone, email, chat, web login, ODC, and autonomous workflows.
• Transform recurring patterns across methods into reusable capabilities, interfaces, evaluations, and operational practices.
• Oversee and improve the reliability, latency, cost, observability, and safety of production capability execution.
• Design evaluation loops that encompass offline tests, production metrics, traces, regression suites, and qualitative assessments.
• Troubleshoot failures related to model behavior, tool execution, orchestration, product constraints, and downstream systems.
• Convert unclear product requirements into technical plans, prototypes, and sustainable systems.
• Work in tandem with product, design, data, platform, and operations teams.
• Mentor and cultivate engineers within the Agents Group while influencing technical direction and standards.
• Record system behavior, capability contracts, tradeoffs, and operational expectations.
• Assist with high-priority method initiatives to enhance agentic behavior, facilitate launches, or resolve production challenges.
• Assess and integrate new applied AI tools, patterns, and workflows.
• Proven experience in delivering production software with a solid foundation in engineering principles.
• Practical experience or strong familiarity with LLM applications, agentic systems, tool calling, retrieval, workflow orchestration, or applied AI products.
• Strong product judgment with the ability to connect customer needs to product experiences and technical architecture.
• Capability to navigate ambiguity, identify critical issues, prioritize tasks, make trade-offs, and advance without complete clarity.
• Enthusiasm for building platform abstractions and shared services for various teams or product interfaces.
• High expectations for quality, reliability, trust, clear contracts, observability, evaluation, and recovery strategies.
• Experience in debugging production behavior across model outputs, distributed systems, product logic, user context, and downstream integrations.
• Effective communication skills with engineering, product, design, data, operations, and platform teams.
• Drive to mentor and develop engineers.
• Familiarity with production LLM applications, agentic systems, workflow engines, tool-calling systems, or AI-driven product interfaces.
• Background in designing capability platforms, shared services, orchestration systems, or reusable product infrastructure.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Node, GraphQL, Postgres, LLM applications, agentic systems, and workflow orchestration.
• Experience in creating evaluation and observability systems for probabilistic or agentic behavior.
• Knowledge in enhancing reliability, alerting, tracing, incident response, and operational quality.
• History of collaboration with Product, Design, Data, Operations, Legal, Support, or other cross-functional teams in sensitive customer domains.
• Experience in developing products where customer trust, permissions, explainability, and recovery paths are paramount.
• A tendency to convert repetitive one-off tasks into reusable systems, patterns, and documentation.
