Staff Android Engineer, Android Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Establish the technical roadmap for Reddit’s Android Platform.

• Oversee cross-functional initiatives within a vast, multi-team Android codebase.

• Make technical decisions that will scale Reddit’s Android Platform to accommodate the next 100M+ daily active users.

• Implement strategies to enhance Developer Experience, accelerating build and test cycles while improving release safety.

• Design the foundational architecture for Android Client Health and Observability, including events, traces, and dashboards.

• Advocate for AI-enhanced developer and agent workflows.

• Offer technical guidance and mentorship to senior engineers.

• Raise engineering standards through architectural evaluations, documentation, and technical advice.

• Transform unclear platform challenges into well-defined multi-quarter roadmaps.

• Collaborate with engineering partners and maintain a hands-on role from design and implementation to rollout and adoption.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of software development experience, with at least 3 years focused on building Android applications.

• Proven history of leading intricate Android initiatives from problem identification to delivery and ongoing adoption.

• Experience in setting technical direction and providing shared platform functionalities within a large Android codebase utilized by multiple teams and millions of daily active users.

• Profound knowledge in Kotlin, Android lifecycle and concurrency, Jetpack Compose, and Kotlin coroutines.

• Background in Android platform or infrastructure work, such as shared libraries or frameworks, experiments/logging, navigation, startup/session orchestration, or core networking/caching.

• Strong systems thinking coupled with hands-on problem-solving abilities.

• Demonstrated evidence of measurable enhancements to app reliability, performance, or developer productivity.

• Capability to influence without formal authority and foster consensus among engineering, product, design, and data partners.

• Proficient in communicating technical strategy and trade-offs effectively.

• Practical experience in leveraging AI for engineering workflows, including code generation, refactoring, static analysis, or CI checks, with measurable outcomes.
