Senior Android BSP Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ukraine.

📋 Description

• Engage in the complete software development lifecycle for embedded Android/Linux products, spanning design, development, testing, debugging, release support, and ongoing maintenance.

• Architect, develop, and sustain embedded software and platform-level components utilizing C/C++.

• Focus on Embedded Linux and Android BSP domains, which include platform configuration, hardware interfaces, device drivers, and support for new device functionalities.

• Contribute to control systems, digital media, and unified communications products utilized in enterprise settings.

• Investigate and rectify system-level concerns throughout the Android/Linux software layers.

• Conduct troubleshooting, debugging, performance enhancements, and bug resolution.

• Facilitate integration between software applications, hardware components, connected devices, and control systems.

• Assist with field escalations for both new and legacy products.

• Analyze issues and work towards enhancing long-term product reliability.

• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including testing procedures, design notes, troubleshooting guides, and implementation details.

• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, Android, Linux, and application engineers across various countries.

• Analyze intricate technical challenges, propose solutions, make engineering choices, and take ownership from investigation through to implementation and validation.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated experience in developing, customizing, and debugging embedded software/firmware for Linux and/or Android-based products.

• Proficient programming abilities in C/C++ within embedded or system-level development environments.

• Practical experience with Embedded Linux development on ARM-based platforms, including configuration, build processes, deployment, hardware interfaces, and platform initialization.

• Familiarity with Linux Kernel, U-Boot, Device Tree, and low-level platform customization.

• Hands-on experience in device driver development, optimization, troubleshooting, bug fixing, and adding new functionalities for display, power management, Wi-Fi, GPIO, or other hardware interfaces.

• Experience with Android HAL and debugging across Android Framework and Linux Kernel layers.

• Solid understanding of AOSP architecture and Android platform development workflows.

• Strong knowledge of recent Android versions, features, APIs, and changes, particularly Android 14 or later.

• Experience with Git, Gerrit, GitHub, ADB, and Fastboot.

• Capability to debug embedded systems where conventional step debugging may be constrained or unavailable.

• Ability to independently interpret and understand electrical schematics.

• Proficient in collaborating effectively with hardware engineering teams.

• Excellent problem-solving skills, ownership mentality, and ability to work independently.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in an international engineering environment.

• Experience with Android framework services, Android Native applications using JNI/NDK, or Android system applications developed in Java or Kotlin.

• Familiarity with hardware-accelerated graphics processing, particularly OpenGL ES.

• Experience with Camera, Display, Media, power management, or connectivity-related subsystems in embedded Android/Linux products.

• Proficient in Bash or Python scripting/automation.

• A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is advantageous.
