This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Spearhead the comprehensive architecture for data platforms and pipelines, which includes scraping, data extraction, transformation, storage, serving, and integration of ML/LLM, ensuring a balance between performance, reliability, security, and cost.
• Gradually enhance pipelines and systems: devise safe rollout strategies and establish key data-quality metrics to accommodate customer and traffic growth without disrupting production.
• Convert business objectives into tangible data products: evaluate high-level requirements, delineate clear problem areas, draft precise RFCs, and organize tasks into actionable projects for the team.
• Set and uphold engineering standards: develop testing strategies, evaluations, observability, data contracts, and security protocols across services. Consider both short-term and long-term goals to create rapid go-to-market products while planning for future productization.
• Elevate the organization: conduct architecture reviews, document patterns, mentor Senior Engineers, and amplify impact through documentation, code reviews, and collaborative work.
• Startup-ready: adaptable, comfortable navigating ambiguity and ongoing change; proactive regarding processes, documentation, and reliability without unnecessary complexity.
• Lead collaboration efforts and define the interplay between AI engineers and software engineers, DevOps, product managers, and designers to conceptualize and develop innovative and impactful solutions. Offer mentorship to junior team members and foster a culture of collaboration and innovation.
• Deliver meaningful experiments: prototype data/ML capabilities, assess feasibility and ROI, and make pragmatic decisions regarding productionalization while considering operating costs and risks.
• Over 8 years of experience in building and operating production data systems, including leading architectural changes that span multiple areas, and deploying LLMs in real-world settings at scale.
• Profound expertise in Python and contemporary service architectures; solid foundations in system design and data modeling.
• Extensive background in training and deploying machine learning models, particularly in the NLP/LLM domain. Proficient in Python. Familiarity with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure is essential.
• Strong understanding of operational maturity: SLOs, on-call/incident management practices, and observability principles.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong inclination towards action and achieving results. Experience in data preprocessing, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques.
• Outstanding communication abilities, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Proven leadership experience, with the capacity to guide and inspire a team.
