Staff Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Provide professional, fundamental accounting services for a corporate holding entity and/or over 20 varied subsidiaries within a healthcare environment.

• Follow internal controls to maintain the integrity of Carilion’s financial reports.

• Conduct monthly reconciliations along with additional responsibilities.

• Gather information from various sources promptly to adhere to deadlines.

• Safeguard the confidentiality of proprietary financial data and sensitive patient information.

• Prepare, record, and verify daily financial transactions; ensure precision in the general ledger.

• Generate sponsor invoices, document sponsor payments, personnel effort, and other research expenditures.

• Track the accuracy and timeliness of sponsor payments in accordance with contract stipulations.

• Collaborate with sponsors as needed to facilitate timely payment collections.

• Initiate journal entries for intercompany and intracompany allocations, along with other necessary adjustments.

• Reconcile accounts monthly, maintaining appropriate schedules as supporting documentation.

• Investigate and rectify account discrepancies.

• Ensure adherence to federal regulations, institutional policies, and sponsor contractual obligations.

• Stay updated with current accounting literature.

• Execute other related tasks as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration with a concentration in accounting is required.

• Entry-level position; experience is not necessary, although 1-2 years of experience is preferred.

• CMA or CPA designation or exam qualification is desirable but not mandatory.

• Basic knowledge of PCs and office equipment is essential.

• Familiarity with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheet, and word processing software, with a preference for Microsoft Windows/Excel/Word.

• Strong writing, interpersonal, and analytical skills are required.
