Specialized Online ESL Teacher – Special Needs Instructor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Collaborate directly with blind, deaf, and deafblind children in Costa Rica.

• Instruct English utilizing adapted and accessible learning materials.

• Facilitate one-on-one and small group online sessions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Native Spanish speakers are essential, with C1/C2 level proficiency in English. An English proficiency assessment will be necessary to confirm the level if the degree is not in English, English Teaching, or English/Spanish translation.

• Must be located in Central or South America.

• A Bachelor's Degree or higher is preferred (in fields such as English, Translation in English/Spanish, Special Education, or a related area).

• An accredited TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certification (120 hours or more) is required.

• Must possess a specialized certification in Visual Impairment, Deaf Education, Deafblindness, or Special Needs.

• A minimum of 3 years of prior experience teaching English (within the last 5 years) is mandatory, preferably as a second language; online teaching experience is favored.

• Should provide at least ten (10) hours of availability each week, including five (5) peak time hours.

• No criminal record is acceptable.

• Proficiency in sign language — LSCo (Costa Rican Sign Language) or another national sign language.

• Certified Braille proficiency (Unified English Braille or an equivalent national standard).

• Knowledge of deafblind communication methods such as Tactile ASL, hand-over-hand guidance, and object cues.

• Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems is preferred.

• A post-graduate diploma or specialization in Inclusive or Special Education is a plus.
