Source Approval Engineer, Forging

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Connecticut.

📋 Description

• Responsible for delivering ESA services primarily to external suppliers both domestically and internationally.

• Specific duties encompass evaluating part forging processes to ensure alignment with product definition data and engineering design intent, leading to the assessment of requests for initial approvals, modifications, and unintentional variations.

• The assessment process will include defining approval plans, conducting on-site observations of processes, reviewing processing documentation and process simulations, analyzing mechanical test data and metallurgical findings, and employing statistical tools to assess process capability.

⛳️ Requirements

• A BS or MS in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is mandatory.

• A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience is required, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with at least 5 years of experience.

• Experience and expertise in large structural forgings and/or rolled ring forgings are necessary.

• Familiarity with P&W’s design, manufacturing, and quality systems, or experience in the ESA approval process, is advantageous.

• Desired knowledge includes associated shop practices, alloy working methods and tooling, nickel and titanium metallurgy, metallurgical evaluation methods, mechanical property testing techniques, heat treatment, process simulations, and statistical evaluation techniques.

• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential for engaging with individuals from various backgrounds and personalities.

• The ability to thrive in a fast-paced production environment and respond swiftly to business needs is crucial.

• Good analytical and observational skills are required. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and be willing to occasionally provide coverage during off-hours based on business demands.

• The position necessitates periodic travel to supplier locations.
