This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to establish a scalable, maintainable microservices architecture utilizing domain-driven design and distributed systems principles.
• Create and implement event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka or comparable technologies.
• Define the architecture for mobile and backend integration, which includes data modeling, offline synchronization, conflict resolution, Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) patterns, and API design.
• Standardize the use of containerization with Docker across development, staging, and production environments.
• Deploy and manage applications on Kubernetes to ensure scalability, resilience, and high availability.
• Design and implement cloud-native solutions on AWS, leveraging EKS, EC2, S3, RDS/Aurora, Lambda, and API Gateway.
• Utilize Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or AWS CDK/CloudFormation to automate provisioning and support GitOps methodologies.
• Establish best practices for security, resilience, observability, and operational excellence.
• Ensure that architectures comply with security, compliance, and HIPAA standards.
• Prototype and validate architectural solutions through spikes and proofs of concept.
• Lead architecture reviews, threat modeling sessions, and code review processes.
• Develop and maintain architectural documentation, including Architectural Decision Records (ADRs), C4 diagrams, data flow diagrams, runbooks, and technical guidance.
• Work together with internal stakeholders on technical strategies, roadmaps, and objectives.
• Contribute to technology assessments, tool selection, and the evolution of platforms towards domain-driven and event-driven microservices.
• Assist in the onboarding and enablement of engineering teams regarding adopted architectural patterns, tools, and standards.
• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
• Over 8 years of experience in software engineering.
• At least 4 years in a Solution Architect, Principal Engineer, or a similar technical leadership role.
• Proven experience in designing and delivering complex, distributed production systems.
• Previous experience in highly regulated industries with stringent data privacy requirements is preferred.
• Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and reactive programming within large-scale production environments.
• Experience in designing, building, and maintaining GraphQL APIs.
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and Apache Kafka in production, including topics, partitions, consumer groups, exactly-once processing, schema registry, Avro/Protobuf, dead-letter queues, and integration/messaging patterns.
• Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, as well as NoSQL, Redis caching, and data modeling for distributed eventually consistent systems.
• Capability to design offline-first or hybrid online/offline mobile architectures, synchronization strategies, conflict resolution, and Backend-for-Frontend patterns.
• Understanding of security architecture in distributed systems and resilience/observability patterns.
• Experience with containerization, container orchestration, and cloud-native deployment practices on AWS.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and GitOps workflows.
• Proven ability to rapidly prototype architectural options and make pragmatic, data-driven technology decisions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
