• Take ownership of the comprehensive architecture for a federated, multi-institution medallion lakehouse (Bronze / Silver / Gold) utilizing Azure Databricks and Microsoft Fabric.
• Establish a federated, multi-tenant framework that differentiates a centrally governed shared layer — including shared transformation logic, a managed production catalog, and source-system security — from institution-administered catalogs and environments.
• Create reference architectures, design patterns, and technical standards to guide the engineering efforts of each institution.
• Document and make key architectural and platform trade-off decisions, providing a clear rationale for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Design the ingestion and integration processes for Workday (HCM, Finance, Student) as well as legacy SIS, LMS, CRM, and identity sources into the lakehouse.
• Develop the Unity Catalog security and access model across institutions, ensuring institutional data autonomy is maintained within a shared governance framework.
• Define and safeguard the two-catalog boundary — distinguishing between the institution-administered production catalog and the centrally managed production catalog — ensuring this distinction is clearly reflected in all designs.
• Collaborate with governance leads to translate governance, data-quality, and stewardship policies into enforceable platform controls.
• Provide direct design authority and technical guidance to data engineers, BI developers, DevOps, and data-quality and governance personnel.
• Evaluate solution designs and critical pull requests for adherence to architectural standards.
• Generate and maintain architecture documentation, decision records, and diagrams.
• Assist in estimation, sequencing, and risk identification in collaboration with project and delivery leads.
• 7–10 years of experience in designing and delivering cloud data platforms, with hands-on architecture experience in production analytics environments.
• Extensive, hands-on knowledge of Azure Databricks and Unity Catalog — including lakehouse design, medallion architecture, and catalog and security modeling.
• Strong understanding of modern data-engineering patterns: ELT/ETL, orchestration, and data modeling across Bronze / Silver / Gold layers.
• Demonstrated capability to design multi-source integration (ERP / SIS / LMS / CRM / identity) into a governed analytics platform.
• Experience in defining security, access, and governance models within a shared or multi-team environment.
• Ability to operate as a senior individual contributor — establishing standards and guiding engineers without direct-report authority.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including architecture documentation and stakeholder-facing design reviews.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Competitive salary.
• Comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees.
• Opportunities for professional development.
• Flexibility to support work-life balance.
