This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Solar Design Engineer will be tasked with the electrical and mechanical design of commercial and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.
• This position plays a key role in projects from the initial site evaluation phase through to the issued-for-construction (IFC) design, ensuring that systems are optimized for performance, constructability, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Create electrical and mechanical designs for commercial and utility-scale solar PV installations.
• Generate and review wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, grounding plans, and electrical schematics.
• Develop mounting layouts and oversee the mechanical integration of racking and structural components.
• Conduct system sizing, energy modeling, and performance analysis.
• Utilize AutoCAD, MicroStation, and various CAD tools to create precise design drawings.
• Employ MATLAB or similar analytical software for system modeling and performance assessment.
• Utilize GIS tools for site evaluations, layout optimization, and addressing environmental factors.
• Work collaboratively with construction, project management, procurement, and permitting teams to ensure designs are feasible for construction.
• Assist construction teams with design clarifications and resolving field issues.
• Coordinate with utilities, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and third-party engineers as necessary.
• Ensure that designs align with relevant electrical codes (NEC), utility requirements, and industry standards.
• Integrate best practices concerning safety, constructability, and long-term system reliability.
• Aid in the preparation of permitting and interconnection documentation.
• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A solid understanding of electrical engineering principles as they pertain to solar PV systems.
• Practical knowledge of mechanical design related to mounting structures and system integration.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation; experience with MATLAB is preferred.
• Familiarity with GIS tools and methods for site analysis.
• An understanding of construction practices pertinent to solar installations.
• Knowledge of systems engineering methodologies to enhance performance and reliability.
• Experience with commercial or utility-scale solar projects is preferred.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple design tasks concurrently.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate within cross-functional teams.
• A remote work environment.
• Travel to project sites may be necessary based on company requirements.
• Occasional travel to Enfield, Connecticut, or other project locations.
