Software Engineering Manager, Data Platforms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead a distributed engineering team tasked with designing and implementing a cloud-based data platform.

• Take ownership of both personnel leadership and technical guidance.

• Direct the architecture and development of scalable data systems, encompassing pipelines, storage layers, and analytics tools.

• Collaborate closely with product leadership to ensure technical execution aligns with changing business priorities.

• Drive delivery planning, which includes sprint cycles, estimation, and release coordination.

• Manage vendor relationships concerning tools, consulting, or external development support.

• Define and execute a forward-thinking data strategy, focusing on platform evolution and product integration.

• Provide technical contributions through design reviews, code reviews, and hands-on problem-solving as necessary.

• Ensure high standards for security, performance, and reliability in partnership with internal security teams.

• Establish and monitor engineering metrics related to quality, velocity, and system reliability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in software or data engineering roles, including more than 7 years in a leadership position.

• Strong expertise in data architecture, data modeling, and large-scale data systems.

• Proven experience in building or managing cloud-native platforms (AWS or Azure).

• Extensive knowledge of data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, and analytics ecosystems.

• Practical programming experience in modern development environments (object-oriented or functional languages).

• Familiarity with distributed version control systems and collaborative development workflows.

• Understanding of business intelligence architectures and data visualization tools.

• Exposure to platforms like Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or similar analytics stacks.

• Experience in delivering SaaS products that meet stringent scalability and performance requirements.
